“I chose my studio for my portrait because it says so much about me. It is one of the places where my art happens. It is a space for my creations to coalesce and to all interact with each other. My studio is where I never run out of ideas. It is where my art language happens. When I am in my studio, I am in my zone and it is magic. My studio is where I am endlessly inventing and creating new things, lost in my inner space. Every piece stands on the shoulders of the previous piece. A line of artifacts going all the way back to my childhood. It is my world and it is my refuge from the world. In my studio, I am like Rumpelstiltskin. I am creating objects of art by weaving together the ubiquitous, the quotidian, and the ephemeral, instead of his straw. My work is sculptural basketry. Tatlin meets the Appalachian Craft tradition and beautiful organic forms take shape. I hope I can share my wonderful art language with others here. It is my hope that people will want to join me in making art here, and then in places like Stewart Park and The Children’s Garden. It is so much fun. I hope you will join me.”
