The Ithaca tennis community enjoys year round tennis matches, friendship and camaraderie. In the summer many players enjoy playing at the the Cornell Faculty Tennis Club (CFTC), an inclusive club available to anyone in town even though it’s named the “Faculty" Tennis Club. Play is available at many other outdoor venues in town and many tennis players enjoy year round play - even in inclement weather- at the indoor Cornell Reis Tennis Center. While exercise and friendly competition is a draw, for many of us, it’s community that is paramount. There are many tennis enthusiasts responsible for the sense of community- the Spirit of Tompkins. At the CFTC Carol Cohen, Secretary, likewise regularly introduces and embraces new players in the area to long standing club members. On August 21st- a tennis round robin and party is planned as the Second Annual Celebration of the Life of Micky Falkson, a warm and wonderful character, and my father, who likewise was passionate about the game and brought players together for decades by arranging competition taking all abilities into account for friendly and fun competition.
